About Braddock Drive Elementary School
Three different programs are operating at Braddock Drive Elementary School. All are LAUSD programs. They are not charter schools or other non-LAUSD entities. There is one principal, and all the facilities are shared among the entire school. Teachers are assigned to one of the three programs; teachers in one program do not generally teach any other program. https:// braddockdres-lausd-ca. schoolloop.com/
The Community School serves any children who live within the neighborhood school boundaries, in grades Transitional kindergar ten through fifth. There are generally one to two classes per grade in the Community school.
The Mandarin Immersion Program (MIP) is an LAUSD dual-language immersion program that launched at Braddock in the fall of 2016. It started with two kinder classes, and each year two new classes will be added until it is a full K-5 program. There is a 501(c)(3) booster club that raises funds for the MIP and Community school, called Supporters of Braddock Drive Elementary School (SBDES). This group was formed at the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year.
The Gifted and High-Performing Magnet Program (Magnet) is a separate program at Braddock, but shares all facilities and school-wide activities. The Magnet program has one class per grade in 2nd through 5th grade. There is no Magnet program in kinder or 1st grade. The Magnet program participates in school-wide activities with the Community School and Mandarin Immersion program, in addition to having activities and events reserved for the Magnet program only. The parent group for this 501(c)(3) Magnet program is called Friends of Braddock Gifted Magnet (FOB), and was founded in 2010.About Braddock Gifted Magnet Program
The Braddock Gifted Magnet program is a very special part of Braddock, and it was established in 1999. It is beloved by our students and parents. Dedicated, creative teachers provide the students with a more rigorous and differentiated curriculum. Magnet students participate in a science fair, spelling bee, musical production, and more. They read novels beyond their grade levels, do project-based math and science projects, explore topics in current events, create and edit short films, and more. Magnet classes benefit from a dedicated teacher’s aide whose assistance permits the teachers to do all the extra programming they do for our kids. The teacher’s aide is paid for in full by FOB.
